Are there any Rhythm Guitarist that are better than Malcolm Young? - January 7, 2011 by Admin

Malcolm Young’s style of playing is really the real success of AC/DC. No other rhythm guitarist has ever gotten close to sounding like Malcolm…well, not without sounding too distorted and messy.

@ Metal Cult–> Indeed, possibly. I forgot about Brian May. Brian May is a better rhythm guitarist than a lead player but still not as good as Malcolm.

@ Chester Mariano Cruz Quintanilla…–> They are not bad. But Malcolm still surpasses all those guys combined together.

@ Thrash ’till Death!–> No offens, but Mustaine is not that great. He sounds clean, but not solid.

@ Chester Mariano Cruz Quintanilla…–> No, really. Would the song "Back In Black" sound the same without Malcolm? I seriously doubt that. Even people that listen to Hip Hop get into AC/DC just because of Malcolm’s solid riffs. Yah know is true.

    @ Chester Mariano Cruz Quintanilla…–>

Izzy Stradlin and Zacky Vengence come close

I don’t know about better but I’d say that Pete Townshend, Andy Summers, Keith Richards, and James Hetfield are all just as good as he is…but I do prefer Malcolm Young’s balls out, in your face style riffs. They’re so simple yet so effective.

-"They are not bad. But Malcolm still surpasses all those guys combined together."? haahaha, okay mr. biased guy, you’ve lost all credibility with that statement.

-talking to you is like talking to a pastrami sandwich

    Thrash 'till Death! | Sep 14, 2010

Roger Waters of Pink Floyd & John Deacon of Queen (yes, he is the rhythm guitarist at times too) would be hard for Malcolm to beat. Also Jimmy Page. He was the rhythm guitarist for the Yardbirds.

Don’t get me wrong. I dig AC/DC and like Malcolm. I’m just saying…

    Phillip Richard Bill (Phil)
    Charles Crandall (Chuckie)

    Let's Take You Back? 16? - January 6, 2011 by Admin

Well here we are on the avenue of time again. Are you ready? sit back and let the fun begin. Remember rate as you see fit.

    1965:

We lose a great voice in Nat King Cole at Santa Monica, California. Malcolm X is shot dead at a rally of the Organisation of Afro-American Unity in Manhattan, New York. The Who’s first single I Can’t Explain, is released in the UK. 1,000 black schoolchildren are arrested for truancy and unlawful assembly in Alabama. This follows the arrest of Martin Luter Kiing Jr. Nicknamed the British Bob Dylan. Donovan is signed to Pye Records…and Britian bans cigarette advertising on television. Johnny Cash album Ring of Fire is certified gold by RIAA in the US. Brian Wilson performs live with the Beach Boys for the last time until the mid 70′s. Birminghan’s Spencer Davis Group, featuring 16 year old Steve Winwood, play their first headline gig at The Marquee Club, Soho London. Reg Dwight later known as Elton John

Hi David, what a great walk down memory lane. Thanks for including the background information on the year 1965. Looking back, it’s hard to believe so much happened in that one year, good and bad.

    Now to the songs:

    1. In The Midnight Hour – Wilson Pickett
    2. The Tracks Of My Tears – The Miracles
    3. Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag – The Godfather James Brown
    4. My Generation – The Who
    5. I Can’t Get No Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones
    6.

    excellent list.
    4, 5, 8, 10. extra thumbs up.

My memory lane would start with some early blues bands, then bring out some classic sabbath, Zeppelin throw in some ozzy lone songs, finally some kiss, then come back and end with stairway to heaven

Nice going Dave. Gave you a star. You deserve it. I wish I had your patience. Have a great week.

It is too hard to rate them since I like them all. They are all wonderful songs, David.
    vtd288 | Dec 14, 2010

    Nice one.
Satisfaction is one of two songs to be a UK hit in 5 different years.

Like a Rolling Stone is written for Brian Jones the leader of the Rolling Stones.

In the Midnight Hour becomes a much covered ‘classic’ or ‘standard’.

James Brown cocks a snoot at the recording companies & only releases live albums.

The Who become the voice of the Mods in the UK.

The Byrds become legends with the help of Gram Parsons.

Ah yes, Dave, I love the musical history! Please do continue. I know Dylan’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ has to be number 1. It is the all-time classic rock song which influenced so many artists in their songwriting afterwards.
    elizabeth | Dec 14, 2010

that is a heck of a year. papa’s got a brand new bag, satisfaction, like a rolling stone and my generation are all downright earth shaking songs that literally shaped popular music for a generation.

Great list. I wasn’t around for that period but I wish I was. Possibly the greatest music era.
I don’t know how I’d rate them all, but I gotta give "Like A Rolling Stone" the number one slot ’cause Bob Dylan is the greatest songwriter of all time.

I was surprised to see two Beatles ones there but it was a great list. The Sounds of Silence would be my favorite – Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag also brings back fond memories. Yesterday was one of the first songs I learned on guitar and is still one of my all time favorite acoustic songs, Satisfaction and Ticket To Ride are good songs but both bands did much better ones. Yeah I know Satisfaction is considered the best Rock song of all time. I think the Stones best song was Gimme Shelter or Street

"Brian Wilson performs live with the Beach Boys for the last time until the mid 70′s"

Brian did perform live with the rest of the Beach Boys on and off after 1965. He however, did not tour with them.

*That’s what i mean. Brian played with the group LIVE well past 1965. It was only at shows local to California. This was done because he didn’t have to travel much.

I especially like the rare version of I can’t get no.Like a Rolling Stone introduced me to the talents of Robert Zimmerman.Wilson Pickett had me tapping my foot and TRYING to dance.I said more than once to friends Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.I don’t think there is a better song describing my generation than The Who’s My Generation and remains one of my favourite songs.Mr. Tambourine man snick up on me and put me in a meloncholy mood. It would always captivate me.What can you say about Yeaterday except

1965 seems like a quite eventful time.

    Was Malcolm X a pimp? Seriously? - January 6, 2011 by Admin

I have read that a lot of African American men pimped White women as a form of retribution. A reversal of roles, now the young White woman is a sexual slave being pimped out by her Black master. The cliche is actually quited dated, but it’s still fascinating to learn. I am very curious about slavery ( particularly sexual slavery ) and the elements involved. interestingly enough, pimps are often found to have near-genius level IQs, with a prolific business acumen and knack for leadership. There’s an allure, but only if you can stomach the uglier side of business.

yes, all thugs have been pimps at least once in their life.

    | Nov 03, 2010

What specifically do you want to know about slavery. This is a very large institution. Are you referring to African enslavement by Europeans or the institution of slavery in general?
    Amaru | Nov 03, 2010

No, from what I know about Malcolm X, he was not a pimp. I do know he did run the streets of Boston. Some say that’s why he started his doctrine: Boston turned him crazy (it’s the most racist sh*t hole in the entire country). Malcolm X was my homie. May he rest in peace.
